Mac Hint – shortcut to zero brightness
Control + Shift + Eject is a simple shortcut to reduce the brightness on your Mac to zero.
Pressing any key or mouse key will bring back your screen to normal.
Siri is great but sucks.
Having received my new iPhone 4S I was eager to talk to Siri. Finally someone who would not question everything I say.
As a native german speaker, I changed Siri to German language since my accent wouldn’t allow it to work properly in English.
After testing quite some time I found it to be quite good and reliable ….UNLESS you need to use some English names.
Sample: I tell it in German to send a message to Peter to meet me in Starbucks.
Now how you pronounce “Starbucks” in German? Of course you speak it the proper English way. Not a chance that Siri will recognize it. Try other words, like “iPad”.
Quite a shame. The German Siri doesn’t know the word iPad.
Same issue if you try to mention names of Thai Cities. While Bangkok works, Pattaya or Rayong doesn’t. Most other names aren’t recognized as well.
So the engineers will have to make some improvements to have non-english Siri understand certain popular english names.
But for a beta it is nevertheless pretty good and very helpful.

Steve Jobs
It has been six days since Steve Jobs’ passing. Still we all feel sad for a man we never met.
It’s because he lives in each of his products. They all have a face. Steve Jobs’ face.
I learnt of his passing on my iPhone, read more about it on my iPad and watched the last “Let’s talk iPhone” Special event on my AppleTV before getting back to work on my iMac.
Everybody using an Apple product associates it with Steve Jobs. 98% of all Samsung users don’t even know who is the Samsung CEO. Not much different with HTC, LG, Acer, Nokia etc. They all are faceless companies. Apple has a face. Yes, still has a face because his legacy will live on for a long time to come. And we will never forget him for the way he enriched our lives (and drained our cash).

Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1″ 3G 16GB
The Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1″ is probably the most beautiful designed tablet out there. The one we have in stock is the 16GB 3G version.
You can get your hands on it for just 18,900 Baht. No screen protector or case included. Samsung is getting a bit stingy. Further you might want to know that memory on these devices can’t be upgraded anymore. Yes, you hear right. No sd card slot anymore. Samsung tragically also decided to move away from micro USB to a proprietary adapter making your life even more difficult. And last but not least, when you connect the device to your computer, it can not mount anymore as an external drive. That might not be a big issue for most if you are using cloud services like Dropbox or SugarSync. The ones remaining need to connect via KIES which is pre-installed.
Now if we compare it with the Motorola Xoom, you just pay 1,000 Baht more and get additionally:
- 32GB memory
- SD card slot which can hold an additional 32GB bringing you to a total of 64GB memory
- Better connectivity with micro USB
- Free case
The only disadvantage is the size and weight of the Xoom.
Google to buy Motorola Mobility
That’s quite a story, Google to buy Motorola Mobility. Whether that is good or bad might become a very interesting topic to follow. If HTC, Samsung and other Android OEMs feel screwed, then this could completely change the current market. And it could change it in favor of Microsoft if HTC, Samsung etc. are going too look for an alternate.
Or would you really believe that Google won’t try to optimize Android for its own phones rather than for its licensees hardware?
